A ponderous and dramatic march from the “King” of all march composers! Composed for King’s friend Merle Evans, bandmaster for the Ringling Bros. Barnum & Bailey Circus, “Invictus” (which means “unconquerable”) lives up to its title! After a ponderous minor-key first section featuring low brass and woodwinds, the second features an exciting “circusy” sound. The trio is followed by a return to the minor key, and ends with a rock-solid final section.
