Commissioned to write a piece as a tribute to a horn playing band director friend, the composer decided it would be totally appropriate to weave melodies from Mozart's 3rd horn concerto into the fabric of this mostly original work. This is indeed a celebratory, jubilant overture, with the outer sections being in a jovial 6/8 rhythmic feel, and the slower-tempo 4/4 middle section expressively drawing on Mozart's Concerto Theme.
