A meditation on death, love, grief, memory, and hope, this symphony for wind band is effective in its entirety or through its individual movements. Movement 4, Ascent, begins softly as the ghost and widow learn to accept what has happened. The pitch rises as the ghost ascends, and the soundscape builds to a thunderous climax.
