This mostly up-tempo overture in ABA form captures the essence of the American West.  Brass and percussion dominate the sound palette, including solo trumpet moments and soaring horn lines, as well as thunderous timpani solos that evoke the sound of cattle drives.  The contrasting, slower middle section adds richness and beauty to the overture.  Centennial Overture could work well as a concert opener or feature number.
